The difficulty is off-putting at first but the more I contemplated my actions and examined the altered game state the whole thing is coming together. Initially confused as the core gameplay changes aren't particularly intuitive, and likely even more confusing for Vanilla/Warband vets.
MOUNT AND BLADE FIRE AND SWORD BANDITS AT MIDNIGHT MOD
Mod thoughts - Western European Mod 16-1700's similar to 1257 AD in style, US Revolutionary War, US Civil War era.

The new swords are shiny, grenades are not (shiny that is), and are also ridiculously expensive 35k+. The do seem to use weapons you can find in the world so I guess you could check the items stats that way. Guess we have to take them at their word that the weapon is more powerful then the last. Perhaps each nations merc camp have different stats.Įquiping troops is done through a text interface. I enjoyed my hodgepodge group of various nationalities to take advatange of each groups strengths. I am not sure how I feel about merc camps. Is there a musket skill I am just not seeing? Found this odd. Perhaps I am use to a higher Wound/Surgery/First Aid Stats but my troops seemed to be dying more then usual. Played for about an hour or two - initial impression is that muskets are fun, but deadly to friendly NPC calvary who forget to move and get bogged down. Warband 1257 AD (thats the year right?) is really great european mod that changes numerous other things that make the game feel more complete. Those two things alone probably save me thousands of mouse clicks so I can get back to slashing people with a sword.

One of the mods, I think it was diplomacy, adds an option for your companions to automatically upgrade their gear from battlefield loot and automatically collect and sell all the loot that they can carry. For example, in the normal game, you had to manually upgrade your companions gear, and manually click on each piece of loot you wanted to carry back to sell. Mount and blade is a fun game, but there are a lot of very obvious improvements that make the game much better that you can get. Warband has some very excellent mods, and fire and sword will surely have some soon. I would also recommend getting some mods. Warband seems like it is easier to get started in, the difficulty of fire and sword drove me to quit already twice. Even though they use the same engine, so far they seem to be quite different.
I would recommend getting M&B warband as well as "with fire and sword." With fire and sword is basically a large mod of Warband. If I'm new to the series, should I be buying "With Fire and Sword" or should I buy the complete package? This looks interesting, but I'm a little confused by the packages. Once you get that down you can start using the lance thrust attack in cases where you need to deliver hits when not couched due to speed or multiple targets.Īgainst a defenseless enemy (no shield/lightish armor) - all mounted melee damage at speed should be a 1 hit kill.

I suggest learning by using the lance personally, less timing issues and you learn how to drive at the enemy, deliver a hit and get out.

Biggest thing about being mounted is that you deal much less damage when standing still. Mounted combat takes some getting use to, you have to swing a little earlier. Is there a loot all function? I've been clicking and dragging every single item on the loot screen after the battle.Ĭontrol click moves the item to the other side in the inventory (either from loot/merchant to inventory or inventory to loot/merchant). I'm not too good with mounted combat, but I did cut down this fleeing archer with one sword stroke. I got this package on special, and my company has a few sword sisters, and they certainly wreak some havoc. Yeah they're several upgrades from the peasant woman unit.
